Former Rutgers Commit Leroy Butts Reopens Recruitment

The on-again, off-again relationship between Leroy Butts and Rutgers is off again.

The 6-foot-8, 200-pound 2015 power forward from Clinton (Md.) Christian decommitted but says he’s still considering Rutgers.

“I re-opened my recruitment,” he told SNY.tv by text. “I wanted to see who else was interested in me.”

Butts in November picked Rutgers over Miami, Cincinnati and DePaul, saying “It’s a great fit for me.”

Sources said Rhode Island, Cincinnati, DePaul, Virginia Tech, Xavier and Towson will be in the mix this time around.

When he committed to Rutgers, DC Assault coach Damon Handon said of Butts: “He’s wired to score the ball, has a good mid-range game and is a rebounder.”

Butts was coach Eddie Jordan’s second 2015 commit, following 6-6 small forward Austin Burnette.
