Derryck Thornton to Visit Kentucky This Weekend

Derryck Thornton, the 6-foot-2 2016 point guard from Findlay Prep, will visit Kentucky from Saturday-Monday and could receive a scholarship offer during the visit, according to a report from Ben Roberts of the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Thornton is currently at the NBPA Top 100 camp in Charlottesville, Va., and plans to drive from there to Lexington.

“I’m very interested in Kentucky,” Thornton told Roberts. “Coach Cal does a great job with point guards … and pretty much everybody (else). He gets guys to the league, so I want to go out there this weekend and get a good feel for how the players like it and all that.”

As previously reported by SNY.tv, Kentucky coach John Calipari called Thornton after Sunday’s midnight rubicon in which college coaches could call rising juniors.

“[Calipari] said, ‘I love him,'” Tank Thornton, who previously coached former Kentucky forward Enes Kanter briefly at Stoneridge Prep, told SNY.tv. “‘I want to offer him face-to-face. I want him to know how hard it is here.’ Cal will tell you if you want to be a pro, you got to take a look at Kentucky.

“He’s been recruiting him since eighth grade. I love Cal and we’ve always had a good relationship.”

Derryck Thornton also holds offers from Michigan, Oklahoma, Miami, Cal, Vanderbilt, Missouri, USC, Arizona, Michigan, UNLV, UConn, Washington and South Florida, among others.

Kentucky earlier this week offered 6-6 2016 New Jersey combo guard Tyus Battle and 7-foot 2016 big man Thon Maker of Virginia, as first reported by SNY.tv.
