Ahmad Enjoys West Virginia; Michigan, Michigan State Up Next

Just a few days after tripping to Maryland last Friday, 6-foot-8 Shaker Heights and All-Ohio Red forward Esa Ahmad visited West Virginia on Wednesday.

“Oh man, it was sweet, it was real nice,” his father, Ibby Ahmad told SNY.tv by phone. “The practice facilities were tremendous. Just the atmosphere was nice and the feeling in the Coliseum. Everybody’s on top of you, it’s cool.”

Esa met with head coach Bob Huggins, who expressed his interest in coaching him in college.

“He wanted to use him as a 2 and a 3, he’ll play immediately,” Ibby said. “He said he’s the kind of guy that wil help them get to the next level. He just loves his games and wants to help him raise it the next level.”

West Virginia is about a 2-hour, 45-minute trip from the Ahmads home in Ohio, which is also a bonus.

Next up are tentative trips to Michigan and Michigan State in early June, his dad said.

“We’ll probably visit sometime in early June,” Ibby said. “Maybe next week depending on his schedule.”

Ahmad is being recruited by Michigan’s Bacari Alexander and Michigan State’s Mike Garland.

They would also like to visit Wisconsin.

Ibby said UConn and UNLV are also in touch, and that he recently heard from Arizona and Texas Tech. Ohio State is also strongly in the mix.

Ahmad will play in the Nike EYBL stop this weekend in Minneapolis and is planning taking officials later this summer and fall.
