Oregon State has chosen Montana head coach Wayne Tinkle as its new head coach, The Oregonian reported on Sunday.
The paper previously reported that Oregon State athletic director Bob De Carolis told players he plans to name a new coach Monday morning.
Tinkle went 158-91 at his alma mater, guiding the Grizzlies to three of the last five NCAA Tournaments. Oregon State hasn’t been to the Big Dance since 1990.
Syracuse assistant Hopkins was the other finalist. Hopkins is a Southern California native who was in the mix for the USC job last year before it went to Andy Enfield. He was also in the mix for the Boston College position that recently went to Jim Christian.
He is the No. 2 man at Syracuse under head coach Jim Boeheim and was named Boeheim’s successor several years ago.
