UConn’s Ollie Dismisses Talk of Lakers’ Meeting

UConn coach Kevin Ollie took to Twitter Tuesday to dismiss reports that he would meet Thursday with the Lakers.

“Don’t Believe everything you hear!! Only meeting I have is with my team on Thursday at Gampel.. We are preparing everyday for Greatness!!” he Tweeted.

One source close to the situation told SNY.tv Ollie wouldn’t take the Lakers’ job if it’s offered.

“He wouldn’t take it,” the source said. “Not even considering it.”

Kentucky coach John Calipari also said he was not interested in the Lakers’ job, while Steve Kerr, the No. 1 option to become the Knicks next coach, is also off the Lakers’ wish list, the New York Post reported.

Meantime, the Detroit Pistons and Golden State Warriors are also reportedly interested in Ollie.

But UConn is in negotiations with Ollie to more than double his salary by paying him at least $2.6 million annually for five years, another source told SNY.tv.

Ollie — who was paid $1.25 million last season — would want to be the highest-paid coach in the American Athletic Conference, the source said.
