Devonte’ Graham to Kansas

One day after losing a point guard from Brewster (N.H.) Academy, Kansas has gained another one.

Devonte’ Graham picked the Jayhawks over N.C. State on Friday, Tweeting “ROCKCHALK JAYHAWK !! #KUCMB .”

“Tradition of winning, opportunity to play right away and felt it was the best fit for me,” Graham said by text of his reasoning for picking Kansas.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Graham recently obtained his release from Appalachian State. After receiving interest from a slew of high-major programs, he then trimmed his list to Kansas and N.C. State.

As far his Kansas visit, Graham told SNY.tv, “I like the campus and the atmosphere and the players I really got along with, and all the coaches. Basically, I would come in and have an impact right away is what I was told.”

Kansas on Thursday lost former Brewster point guard Naadir Tharpe to transfer, opening up a spot for Graham.

The Jayhawks have Conner Frankamp and Frank Mason returning at the point, but Graham “would play with them and Wayne [Selden] and the people coming in,” he said.

Graham joins a recruiting class including big man Cliff Alexander and wing Kelly Oubre. On Wednesday Texas big man Myles Turner chose Texas over Kansas and others.

“Devonte’ can facilitate and run a team,” Brewster coach Jason Smith said. “Defensively, he’s outstanding and he’s able to shoot the ball well from the perimeter. He’s as a good as any point we’ve had at Brewster.”
