DeAndre DanielsROSELLE, N.J. — UConn coach Kevin Ollie plans to huddle next week with juniors DeAndre Daniels and Ryan Boatright about their future plans.

Originally projected as a 2015 NBA Draft pick, the 6-foot-9 Daniels helped his stock with a strong NCAA Tournament and may opt to declare this year. The 6-foot Boatright is not projected to get drafted and should probably return to the reigning national champions.

“We’re trying to get them finishing school so they can have their options of coming back if they decide to,” Ollie told SNY.tv of Daniels and Boatright. “I know they’re going to be thinking it over with their family and I’m going to be there for them either way they go. They’re always going to have a home in Connecticut, so if they do decide to come back we’re going to take them with open arms. If they decide to go, I’m going to give them advice on the next step of their life.”

SMU

MudiayROSELLE, N.J. — SMU coach Larry Brown says incoming point guard Emmanuel Mudiay is “the best player in the country” and will be a lottery pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.

“It ain’t even close,” Brown told SNY.tv Friday at the Coaches’ Clinic at Roselle Catholic High School. “He’s 6-5, he can just play. He makes people better, he can defend, he can rebound.

“He’s going to be a lottery pick if I don’t screw up.”

Articles, Marquette

Blair Academy wing Marial Shayok has received his release from Marquette and holds offers from several schools.

The 6-foot-6 Canadian wing received an offer from Indiana on Thursday, Blair coach Joe Mantegna Tweeted.

Shayok also holds offers from Rutgers, Virginia, Michigan and Marquette, Mantegna told SNY.tv. But Makur Shayok, Marial’s father, told SNY.tv that no schools had reached out directly to him or his son.

Two of the best players in the country, Harry Giles and PJ Dozier, are returning from knee injuries, and are on the cusp of playing after sitting out extended amounts of time.

Giles, the No. 1 ranked player in the class of 2016 by 247Sports, says that his return from a Torn ACL, MCL and Meniscus will come soon, but that he still wants to continue his rehab and his goal is to be 95 percent when he does take the court.

Kansas, Recruiting

Malik NewmanKansas head coach Bill Self and assistant Jerrance Howard visited with 2015 guard Malik Newman on Thursday, sources confirmed to SNY.tv.

Back in February, Howard watched the 6-foot-3 Newman go for 31 points, including a key late 3-pointer, as Callaway (MS) beat rival Provine 76-73.

Newman is a top priority for Kansas in 2015.

“[Howard] told me that Malik could start for them right now,” Calloway coach Dave Sanders told SNY.tv then.

St. John's

jacko_cardAs he works to rebuild a frontcourt that has lost several players this offseason, St. John’s coach Steve Lavin will travel today to see 6-8 unsigned forward Marlon Jones out of Chicago Orr.

Lavin will then head to California on Saturday to visit with junior college forward Adom Jacko.

The 6-foot-8 Jacko out of Chaffey College averaged 13.6 points and 6.7 rebounds this season and was named to the CCCAA All-State Team and the 2014 CCCAA Men’s Basketball Championships all-tournament Team. Jacko helped lead the Panthers to the Final Four.

Lavin was originally scheduled to attend a Coaches’ Clinic at Roselle (N.J.) Catholic that will also include UConn coach Kevin Ollie among others, but changed plans to travel to see Jones and Jacko.
