Slew of Coaches Watch 2015 Big Man Jessie Govan

By CESAR MARTINEZ & ADAM ZAGORIA

SACRAMENTO, CA — All signs point to a bright future for the humble Jessie Govan, a heavily recruited 6-foot-10, 260-pound center out of Wings Academy in New York.

During his trip out West for the Nike EYBL stop, Govan picked up an offer from N.C. State and was watched by Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, Notre Dame’s Mike Brey, Stanford’s Johnny Dawkins, Georgetown’s John Thompson III, UConn’s Kevin Ollie, Miami’s Jim Larranaga, Louisville’s Rick Pitino, St. John’s Steve Lavin, Seton Hall’s Kevin Willard, and N.C. State’s Mark Gottfried.

“I’m wide open, just enjoying the recruiting process,” Govan said Saturday. “I want to take things slow.”

Prior to going out West with his New York Lightning squad, Govan had home visits with Seton Hall, UConn, Georgetown and Stanford.

Govan’s humble personality and reserved attitude are endearing, but on the court, this big man boasts a toughness that is unparalleled. At the EYBL he was heavily featured in the Lightning’s play. Despite being dominant throughout the day’s games, his team had a rough Saturday, eventually falling short in two close games.

“We need to execute our game-plan from the start, staying focused throughout the whole game and making sure we are tough for an entire game,” he said.

And with regards to his personal development Govan added, “I just have to keep being tough, attacking the glass, and dominating my position.”
