Lexington (Ky.) Lafayette power forward Jackson Davis committed to and signed his National Letter of Intent with Butler University on Friday afternoon.
The 6-foot-8 Davis chose the Bulldogs over Alabama and Rice. Arizona State, Columbia, Creighton, Florida and Vanderbilt had previously been cut.
“Coach [Brandon] Miller and Coach [Chris] Holtmann are both convinced that Jackson has a high ceiling and could be a factor for them for four years,” his father, Jonathan Davis, said before the announcement. “The Butler fans have gone above and beyond to express their hopefulness that he would come to Indianapolis.”
“We are very excited about adding Jackson to our current recruiting class,” Miller said in a press release. “He is a mobile, athletic forward with a skill set that continues to expand. He has rebounded at a very high level and he has continued to improve every year in high school due to his work ethic which will serve him well as he goes through the demands of college basketball.”
Davis finished his high school career as Lafayette’s all-time leader in points (2,343), rebounds (1,372) and blocked shots (321). His career rebounding total ranks 12th all-time in Kentucky high school history. As a senior, Davis averaged 24.6 points, 13.8 rebounds and 2.3 blocks before being named one of seven finalists Kentucky’s ‘Mr. Basketball.’
In its first season in the Big East in 2013-14, Butler went 14-17 overall, including just 4-14 in the new-look conference.
