Myles Turner Enjoys Last Official to Texas; May See Kentucky, Arizona

Myles Turner took his fifth and final official visit to Texas this week and enjoyed it.

“It was great,” David Turner, the player’s father, told SNY.tv. “Everything went really well. It was good.”

The 6-foot-11 Turner out of Euless (TX) Trinity has now taken officials to Texas, Duke, Kansas, Ohio State and Oklahoma State, as well as unofficials to SMU and Texas A&M.

Asked how Texas coach Rick Barnes and his staff envisioned using Turner, David said: “Pretty much not pigeonholing him and letting him play 3, 4, 5, whatever was needed. He’s a good shot-blocker and scorer on the wings and in the post, so they would use him whatever way they can.”

Texas has long been considered a serious potential landing spot for Turner, since it is his home-state program and his family and friends could see him play there.

“It’s a good look,” David said. “He’ll fit in wherever he decides to go but of course selfishly for the parents, it’s a little better for us. But to get developed by somebody like Larry Brown or Coach [Mike] Krzyzewski or Thad Matta, I mean he has good choices. So we’ll sit down and decide what’s best for him.”

David said his son is officially considering nine schools at this point, Arizona, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, SMU, Texas and Texas A&M.

“Yeah, SMU and A&M are both on the list,” David said.

Turner may still take an unofficial to Kentucky, which figures to be loaded with bigs next year with the likely return of Dakari Johnson and Marcus Lee and the arrivals of Trey Lyles and Karl Towns, the National Gatorade Player of the Year.

“If we can visit someplace unofficially that we haven’t been yet, we’re going to try to do that,” David said.

Meantime, Turner will play in the McDonald’s All-American Game Wednesday in Chicago, the Nike Hoop Summit April 12 in Portland and the Jordan Brand Classic April 18 in Brooklyn.

“He’s got all his All-Star games coming up here, so if we can get down to Kentucky or to Arizona, we’re going to try but it’s going to be hard,” he said. “But we’re going to try.”

As reported here, Turner will use his experiences playing with various commits at the all-star games to inform his decision. The late signing period runs April 16-May 21.
