Rick Pitino Advises Eddie Jordan to ‘Have a Drink and Get Ready for Next Year’

PitinoRick Pitino has some words of advice for Eddie Jordan.

After Louisville destroyed Rutgers, 92-31, in an American Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinal game Thursday in Memphis, Pitino said: “I’m not really sure what to say. It’s one of those nights where everything went really well for us and nothing went right for them…

“You go right to the bar, forget the game, have a drink and get ready for next year.”

Said Jordan, whose team finished 12-21 in his first year after succeeding Mike Rice, “Nothing worked tonight. We tried.”

Jordan no doubt hope next year offers no more days like Thursday.

But things could be ugly for Rutgers once it joins the Big Ten and must play Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Iowa State and Indiana on a regular basis.

Rutgers has four commits for 2014 and the transition to the Big Ten — guards Mike Williams and Bishop Daniels, forward D.J. Foreman and center Ibrahima Diallo.

Those are some nice pieces but the class doesn’t compare to Seton Hall’s loaded five-man glass that is highlighted by McDonald’s All-American Isaiah Whitehead of Lincoln High School and rebounding machine Angel Delgado of The Patrick School.

Rutgers needs to score big in the Class of 2015 and Jordan is going hard after Roselle (N.J.) Catholic guard Isaiah Briscoe to anchor that class.

Briscoe is also considering St. John’s, UConn, Arizona and Seton Hall, among others.
