Charles Matthews, a five-star 2015 shooting guard from Chicago St. Rita, will announce his college choice on Wednesday morning at 9:30 EST at St. Rita.
The 6-foot-6 Matthews Tweeted Monday, “Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan St, and Marquette was the final 5.”
Ballislife’s Scott Comeau tweeted Monday night that Kentucky head coach John Calipari was in attendance at St. Rita practice on Monday. Calipari has landed commitments from Derrick Rose (while at Memphis), Anthony Davis and Tyler Ulis out of the Chicago Meanstreets AAU program in past years.
St. Rita head coach Gary DeCesare also coached Kentucky assistant Orlando Antigua and his brother Oliver Antigua at St. Raymond’s in The Bronx.
The 247 Crystal Ball has 90 percent of recruiting experts picking Kentucky, with 10 percent selecting Illinois.
Kentucky has no commits for 2015 as of yet, but is also recruiting 2015 shooting guards Malik Newman and Luke Kennard.
Illinois has also been focusing recently on 2015 point guard Jalen Brunson, as we reported here.
