LAKELAND, Fla.– Juwan Durham has impressed some of the best coaches from all over the country so far this year, and he will only continue to do so.
“Lately, most of the Florida schools have been recruiting me the most,” Durham told SNY.tv on Saturday after a 62-26 win over McKeel Academy on Friday night. “Louisville has come along recently as well.”
The 6-foot-10 sophomore from Tampa Prep is ranked no. 19 in the class of 2016 by ESPN and has received offers from Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Miami, LSU, South Carolina, South Florida, and Texas A&M.
“I want to go and play in a program that fits me,” Durham said. “I want to go to a place that will let me take the open jumper and put the ball on the ground. It’s so early though for that decision for me.”
Averaging 19.7 points, 11.8 rebounds and 6.8 blocks per game, Durham isn’t just a low post scorer. He’s a versatile big man with consistent range out to 17-18 feet. His 7-foot-3 wingspan helps on the defensive side to alter shots, and he is quick enough to guard smaller guards.
Durham was selected to play for Team USA’s Developmental team at their Mini Camp in October, and says he learned much from the chance to travel to Colorado Springs and play with the best in the nation.
“It was a great experience, I liked it a lot,” Durham said. “Last time I went out there, I learned what I needed to work on, which was getting stronger, as well as my handles, really just improving all around.”
