Georgetown-bound White and Duke-bound Okafor Lead Whitney Young Over Prime Prep

Saturday was a big day for Georgetown and its future players.

Not only did the Hoyas beat St. John’s, 77-60, in Big East play, but Georgetown pledge Paul White went off for 29 points while Duke signee Jahlil Okafor had 24 points and nine rebounds as Whitney Young (IL) beat Prime Prep (TX), 72-69, at the Cancer Research Classic in Wheeling, W.V.

White and Okafor were named co-MVPs of the game after combining for 53 points.

Okafor, the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2015, was named the tournament MVP.

After trailing by 18 points in the third period, White and Okafor scored 12 points during a 17-2 run that put the Chicago team up 65-60 in the fourth. “We just told the kids (when down 18) that we were down but not out of it,” Whitney Young coach Tyrone Slaughter told The Intelligencer. “We’ve been in this position all year, so it wasn’t new. When we realized we were in a dogfight, we fought back. I thought Prime Prep fought hard, but our guys never quit.”

SMU-bound point guard Emmanuel Mudiay finished with 16 points for Prime Prep.

Okafor has now won games this season against Mudiay and future Duke teammates Tyus Jones and Grayson Allen.
