Kentucky signee Trey Lyles led Arsenal Tech (Ind.) to their second win against Huntington Prep (W.V.) in the month of December, 78-70, in front of a home crowd that included West Virginia Head Coach Bob Huggins and Kansas assistant Norm Roberts in Indianapolis.
Lyles, a 6-foot-10, 250 pound power forward, went for 12 points and 13 rebounds, and was a matchup nightmare for Huntington Prep with his ability to pass, consistently kicking out to Michael Jones, Ball-State bound Jeremie Tyler, and CJ Walker, who combined for 57 of Arsenal Tech’s 78 points.
At one point, Lyles went down with an injury — during which Kentucky coach John Calipari’s heart might have skipped — but he got right back up with an apparent calf injury.
The game turned when Arsenal Tech went on a 20-1 run over the end of the second quarter and the beginning of the third, taking them to an 11-point lead, and they never looked back.
Arsenal Tech took down Huntington Prep, 54-51, at the Marshall County Hoop Fest on Dec. 7, in a game where Lyles had 22 points and 14 rebounds.
Lyles is part of a four-man recruiting class at Kentucky that also includes point guard Tyler Ulis, shooting guard Devin Booker and big man Karl Towns Jr.
Kansas and West Virginia were there for uncommitted 2014 guard JaQuan Lyle, who led Huntington Prep with 28 points, 22 of which were in the fourth quarter.
