In a widely expected move, Duke transfer Alex Murphy announced he’s headed to Florida.
“I really appreciate the experience at Duke, playing for a Hall of Fame coach in Mike Krzyzewski,” the 6-foot-8 redshirt sophomore told ESPN.com. “I learned a lot as a player and a person.
“I’ve gotten a chance to know Coach (Billy) Donovan and the program. I think it’s a great fit for me to continue my career. I think they can help me develop as a player — and that I can help them a lot as well.”
The report said he also considered Rhode Island, Providence and Northeastern.
Erik Murphy, Alex’s older brother now with the Chicago Bulls, told SNY.tv he hoped his brother would pick the Gators.
“I would love to see him go to Florida, but it’s his decision,” Erik Murphy told SNY.tv last week at Madison Square Garden. “He’s going to come to the conclusion that he wants to and hopefully, it works out for him this time.”
Erik Murphy said he believed Florida, which beat Memphis, 77-75 Tuesday, has the talent to win the whole thing. Florida now has Kasey Hill and Scottie Wilbekin back and will soon get freshman Chris Walker, although Donovan has tried to temper expectations on Walker.
