Adonis De La Rosa Set for Spring Signing

Adonis De La Rosa, a 6-foot-10 center from Christ the King in New York, is set to sign in the spring once he takes the SAT.

Christ the King coach Joe Arbitello said Purdue, Wake Forest, Florida State, St. John’s, Seton Hall, SMU, Georgetown, Fordham and Hofstra were all recruiting De La Rosa.

“He’s gotta take the SAT,” Arbitello said. “It will be no problem for him.”

De La Rosa can’t take any official visits until completing the test, but he has a big upside after getting down to about 250 pounds.

“He’s lost about 40 or 50 pounds,” Arbitello said. “He [could] lose another 30 when he gets to college. He has great hands, great feet. He’s a post player. The way the game has evolved in college, he’s not one of these 6-10 real athletic guys but he is a 6-11 back-to-the-basket guy that teams have a tough time defending because they don’t see it a lot.”

Arbitello thinks it’s good that De La Rosa will sign in the spring.

“I’ve changed my mind,” he said. “I don’t think signing early is the thing to do anymore. With the carousel of coaching, it can really put a kid in a bad situation.”
