Khadeem Lattin is headed to Oklahoma.
The 6-foot-9, 205-pound center from Redemption Christian Homeschool Academy in Houston called head coach Lon Kruger Thursday morning after consulting with his parents and John Lucas on Wednesday night.
“This morning he got up and made the call,” his mother, Monica Lamb, told SNY.tv Thursday.
Lattin had narrowed his list to Texas, USC and Oklahoma and took visits to Texas and Oklahoma.
“We really, really are convinved that Coach Kruger is the man that should be at the helm of the next phase of development for Khadeem,” Lamb said. “He’s demonstrated in his record and in his current role there at Oklahoma that he will be not just be able to embrace the basketball player but the kid that we’ll send to Oklahoma for the next phase of his life to help usher him into young manhood.
“We took the official visit last month and were very very comfortable with Coach Kruger and Oklahoma and from that point in our guts and our spirits the decision was probably made then.”
After watching Lattin play in New York in the summer of 2012, longtime New York recruiting expert Tom Konchalski came away highly impressed.
“Khadeem Lattin, [former Texas Western center] Dave’s Lattin’s grandson, was terrific,” he said.
“He’s so active. He runs the floor, he attacks the basket, he gets on the offensive and the defensive boards. He blocks, challenges and changes shots. He does all three.
“He’s a young colt. His grandfather at his age was an absolute stud. He’s going to be a terrific player.”
Lattin said then he modeled his game after Kevin Garnett.
“I try my hardest to play like Kevin Garnett, Mr. Intensity,” he said. “Nobody gets after it like he does, or how he has. Hopefully, I can elevate my game to a more offensive level, maybe like Kevin Durant, being that he’s 6-11.
“We have the same frame body, so that I’m trying to get to.’
