Govan, Buie to Team Up at Wings Academy (UPDATED)

Jessie Govan, a 6-foot-10 2015 center has transferred to Wings Academy from Manhasset, N.Y., St. Mary’s, he confirmed to SNY.tv.

“It was my parents’ decision,” he said.

The news was previously reported by several New York basketball Websites.

Govan will join his close friend and NY Lightning teammate, 2015 point guard Desure Buie, at Wings.

“Me and Desure are going to be scary together,” Govan said. “It’s going to be fun since I already play with him during the summer and he knows where I like the ball.”

Govan holds multiple offers, including from Seton Hall, UConn, Arizona and Louisville, and said UConn Seton Hall and Miami “are recruiting me the hardest right now.”

Two of his Lightning teammates — Angel Delgado and Khadeen Carrington — are already pledged to Seton Hall for 2014.

Govan said he plans to visit UConn Oct. 18 for Midnight Madness and Seton Hall Oct. 19.

He is also slated to play with Buie, Carrington and Seton Hall pledge Isaiah Whitehead Oct. 19 in the Sharette Dixon Classic.

Govan said he and Buie have talked about possibly playing together in college.

“We have talked about it sometimes,” Govan said. “If we feel a school is a good fit for both of us then we’ll do it.”
