Andre Walker, a 6-foot-10, 225-pound power forward from Clarksburg (Md.) Bullis, committed to Hofstra on Saturday, giving coach Joe Mihalich a quality shot-blocker beginning in 2014.
He also considered Towson, George Mason, George Washington, James Madison, La Salle and others.
“The way I interacted with the players from the first time I met them was great and the coaching staff is a great group of guys,” Walker told SNY.tv. “Also the campus is beautiful. I had fun staying on campus. The players made my visit very interesting.”
As for his skillset, Walker is a natural shot-blocker who is still developing his offensive game.
“For the basketball side of it, I will bring defense and low-post offense and a high-post pick-and-roll face-up,” he said.
“He’s a big guy and the big guys tend to develop a little bit later,” Bullis coach Bruce Kelly told SNY.tv. “For the way Joe’s teams have always played, the way they press and run, Andre’s the perfect fit. He should be able to defensively anchor their press and their attack. He’s an elite shot-blocker. He has beautiful timing, a built in born knack to block shots.
“He’s a long lean basketball athlete and he’s got some muscle. Once he gets to a Division 1 program with weights and strength training, he’s a high-major athlete.”
