    Blair (N.J.) Academy wing Marial Shayok took an official to Virginia this past weekend and will next trip to Marquette the weekend of Sept. 28, Blair coach Joe Mantegna told SNY.tv.

    Mantegna said the 6-foot-6 Shayok “liked” the UVA visit, which occurred the same weekend Tony Bennett’s club got a verbal pledge from 6-8 Atlanta forward Isaiah Wilkins.

    During his time at the Nike Global Challenge in July, Shayok was appreciative that Marquette coach Buzz Williams was in the stands.

    Abdul Malik Abu and Jared Terrell are set to announce their college decisions on Saturday outside Boston.

    But before they do, Terrell will take one more visit

    The 6-3 Terrell will trip to Rhode Island for an official on Tuesday as well.

    The 6-8 Abu will not visit Florida this week as had been reported. He has already visited the school.

    “I will not be taking any visits before my commitment date. Im in Boston resting before my press confrence Sept 7,” he Tweeted.

    Tyus Jones and Jahlil Okafor took their first joint official visit together to Baylor this weekend.

    “Thank u to Baylor and Waco for a great weekend and official visit. Headed back home shortly,” the 6-foot-1 Jones Tweeted Sunday.

    The 6-10 Okafor Tweeted.: “Wheels up to Chicago. Bye Waco and all of Baylor. Can’t thank you enough for all the love and a great weekend!”

    NEW YORK — This was out on the cozy confines of the Grandstand court on Sunday night at the US Open where a raucous crowd was right on top of the players.

    The fans seemed split about 70/30 between those supporting Tim Smyczek, the last American man in the draw, and Marcel Granollers, a tall, lanky Spaniard who had his own vocal fans in the house.

    With Smyczek having blown a 4-1 lead in the fifth set and now facing a 5-6 deficit,  chants of “USA, USA” and “Let’s go, Tim” rang out in the Flushing Meadows night.

    “You’re our last hope,” one fan had yelled at Smyczek, channeling his inner Princess Leia.

    NEW YORK — There may come a day in women’s tennis when another American  dethrones Serena Williams.

    But for the all the hype about the fourth-round match between Serena and 20-year-old Sloane Stephens — and their emerging rivalry dating to earlier this year — that moment didn’t come Sunday afternoon inside Arthur Ashe Stadium.

    Not by a long shot.

    Williams, the No. 1 seed and defending champ, demonstrated that she’s still the Queen not only of American tennis, but of women’s tennis worldwide, by eliminating Stephens, 6-4, 6-1.

    Cliff Alexander won a championship on Sunday.

    The 6-foot-9 Chicago Curie center helped Team USA win the FIBA Americas 3×3 U18 Championship in Fort Washington, Md.

    “We won the championship game,” Alexander told SNY.tv by phone. “I played alright. I got a couple blocked shots. rebounded the ball. This is a warmup tournament before we go to Indonesia.”

    The third annual FIBA 3×3 U18 World Championship is expected to feature 24 women’s teams and 32 men’s teams from Sept. 27-29 in Jakarta, Indonesia, and the top teams will qualify for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China.
