Minnesota, Pittsburgh Visiting Whitehead Today

Isaiah Whitehead has done a great job of keeping his recruiting cards close to the vest, and today two more schools will make their pitch to the 2014 Brooklyn Lincoln shooting guard.

Minnesota head coach Richard Pitino and assistant Kimani Young will visit with Whitehead in Brooklyn, as will Pittsburgh head coach Jamie Dixon and assistant Barry “Slice” Rohrssen.

Minnesota is in the midst of a huge week in which they saw Findlay Prep guard Rashad Vaughn, a Minnesota native, work out Monday, and also had a home visit with Minnesota point guard Tyus Jones Tuesday.

Now Pitino will see the 6-foot-4 Whitehead to make his pitch.

“They say you can get away, shy away from all the attention,” Whitehead told SNY.tv of Minnesota last month. “They know it’s in the Big Ten but it’s really a low key school, no one really has pressure there to do big things.”

Whitehead is also considering Indiana, Arizona, UCLA, Louisville, Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Seton Hall, among others, and is set to take an unofficial to Seton Hall Saturday.

Pitt has not been talked about much in the Whitehead recruitment, but they shouldn’t be counted out.

Dixon has had tremendous success at Pitt over the last decade and can now pitch to recruits that the Panthers will play in the ACC against Duke, North Carolina, Syracuse, etc.

Rorhrssen, who was brought back to Pitt in the offseason, has also has great success recruiting New York City kids — and that could have an impact in this case.

Before the Whitehead visit, Pitino will visit 6-6 Canadian wing Marial Shayok at Blair (N.J.) Academy.

Shayok hosted Marquette’s Buzz Williams on Tuesday, and will also host USC, Boston College and Seton Hall this week.
