Josh Perkins to Gonzaga

As expected, Huntington (W.V.) Prep point guard Josh Perkins committed to Gonzaga on Saturday morning.

“Officially committed to university of Gonzaga!!” he Tweeted.

The 6-foot-2 point guard also considered UCLA and Minnesota.

“Gonzaga has been there from day one,” Randy Perkins, Josh’s father, told SNY.tv this summer.

“There’s something to be said for being there from day one. When Josh is interviewed the first thing out of his mouth is he wants a coach to be there both on and off the court for him. For that, Gonzaga rates really high.”

“Coach [Mark] Few’s been there since day one. He’s at every game. Josh is really excited when he sees the head coach there.”

Huntington Prep coach Rob Fulford believes Perkins is a great fit for Gonzaga.

“They use tons of movement and pick-and-roll options,” he said. “The offense is geared toward guys making shots. Josh is an elite playmaker for teammates but also an elite shooter. Mark Few has done a great job with point guards that are also shooters. Gonzaga got the best passing point guard in the country.”

Kentucky was involved with Perkins but never offered. With Tyus Jones expected to pick Duke and Emmanuel Mudiay expected to choose SMU, Kentucky is now focusing on Chicago point guard Tyler Ulis.

Minnesota, meantime, is among three finalists for Lourawls “Tum Tum” Nairn, while UCLA is involved with both Quentin Snider and Isaiah Whitehead, who some believe can eventually transition from the two to the one.
