Iona Lands 6-11 Daniel Robinson (UPDATED)

Iona has signed 6-foot-11 Daniel Robinson, a former FIU commit who decommitted after the coaching change there.

Robinson said he chose Iona for one reason.

“To summarize into two words: Coach Cluess,” Robinson told SNY.tv of head coach Tim Cluess.

“He has been a coach of his word since he recruited me. I feel like we are going to have an excellent player-coach relationship because he is a coach that doesn’t take shortcuts on and off the court.”

He added: “Iona is going to be a great experience for me because the staff wants nothing but the best for their players. And Coach Cluess can really excel my career into a professional one and I’m all for it.”

Former IMG Academy coach Loren Jackson said Robinson will excel in Cluess’s uptempo attack.

“He’s a 6-11 kid that possesses a lot of good skills,” Jackson told SNY.tv. “He can really shoot the ball. He’s kind of a Chris Bosh type of kid. He’s not really a back-to-the-basket kid but he can do it.”

Added Robinson: “I’m going to bring a Chris Bosh type of skillset to the team as far as shooting the ball well and playing interior defense. I’m really excited to be a Gael.”

A Norfolk, Va., native, Robinson is the last member of Cluess’ 2013 recruiting class, joining Rutgers transfer Mike Poole, Marshall transfer Kelvin Amayo, Isaiah Williams, Shack Scott and 6-10 Ryden Hines.
