Knicks’ Shumpert Plans to Play Vegas Summer League

GREENBURGH, N.Y. –– Knicks guard Iman Shumpert says he plans to play in the Vegas Summer League July 13-22 to work on his game.

“Yeah, I think I’m going to play,” Shumpert said here Monday.

A year ago, Shumpert was coming off an ACL tear in the first round against Miami. After coming back from the ACL in January, he wants to play in summer league to continue to develop his game.

“I’m happy that I got a summer to get everything right, know what I have to work on and not have to sit out due to injury,” he said.

He added: “Just to be under coaching. That will give me an opportunity to work on the things that I need to work on for next year for me to still be under [the coaches].”

While Derrick Rose did not play at all during the postseason despite tearing his ACL the same day as Shumpert, Shumpert had a strong postseason — averaging 9.3 points and 6.0 rebounds, and went for 19 in Game 6 against the Pacers.

He said he wants to be more aggressive and consistent next year.

“They want me to see me be more decisive offensively, which I already knew, but they want me to do that this summer,” he said. “See me work on it throughout the summer and then come in” ready to go.
