Kentucky assistant Orlando Antigua is slated to watch 2013 point guard Emmanuel Owootoah tonight (Thursday) when Cordia (Ky.) High School takes on Jackson City (Ky.) on Senior Night.

“I’ve been texting with Orlando,” Cordia coach Rodrick Rhodes told SNY.tv. “He’s still coming to the game today.”

Rhodes said Antigua and the Kentucky staff have understandably been busy with Nerlens Noel’s ACL injury, but they are making time to see Owootoah.

“They’re gonna check him out,” Rhodes said. “They asked me what did I think about him and I said, ‘He has an unbelievable feel for the game. He has great court vision and is a very competitive kid. I definitely think he can play at that level.'”

Articles, Seton Hall

As one of the top big men in North Carolina in the Class of 2014, Logan McLane, a 6-foot-8 wing out of the Wilson (N.C.) Greenfield School, has seen his recruitment pick up after a strong summer with his AAU outfit, Team Loaded.

McLane recently picked up an offer from Seton Hall and also holds offers from St. Louis, Mercer, UNC-Greensboro, Winthrop, Miami (Ohio) and Buffalo.

McLane said he likes Seton Hall because they are in the Big East (for now), St. Louis because of their history of success, Miami of Ohio, UNC-Greensboro, Buffalo, Mercer and Winthrop because they keep in touch and communicate on a regular basis.

Knicks

NEW YORK –– After losing to the Toronto Raptors Wednesday night, a banged-up Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks stumbled into the All-Star break having lost three of their last four games.

Anthony may have to sit out Sunday’s All-Star Game in Houston after suffering what he called a “deep contusion” to his right biceps after taking an elbow from Demar DeRozan in the first quarter.

“I’m not going to force it, definitely not going to force it,” Anthony said. “As bad as I would want to play in the All-Star Game, participate, if I can’t go, I can’t go. Nothing I can do about that.”

Big East, Syracuse, UConn

HARTFORD, Conn. — It’s a rivalry that is 33 years old and in the fast moving world of college sports, that’s about as old as rivals get.

Syracuse and UConn are two of the marquee programs in the Big East. For ages, Jim Boeheim matched up with Jim Calhoun with their all-time wins record at times close enough where a week could change who was on top of the other.

The two schools became the epitome of Big East basketball.

The schools have played 88 times overall and 70 times as conference mates. In that time, UConn has won three national titles and been to four Final Fours while the Orange have three Final Fours to their credit and won the championship behind Carmelo Anthony in 2003.

That rivalry came to an end, at least for the time being on Wednesday, as UConn defeated No. 6 Syracuse for the first time in three tries in a 66-58 win.

The game was an ESPN featured game during rivalry week taking its rightful place before Duke-North Carolina.

NEW YORK –– Knicks guard Iman Shumpert is not close friends with Nerlens Noel but he can feel his pain all the way from Kentucky.

On Tuesday night, Noel, the 6-foot-10 freshman center tore his ACL while trying to block a shot on a fast break against Florida and has been declared out for the remainder of the season. He is expected to have surgery in 2-3 weeks and then undergo a rehabilitation of 6-8 months.

“Oh, man,” Shumpert said before the Knicks’ lost to the Toronto Raptors, 92-88, Wednesday at Madison Square Garden. “I don’t wish that upon anybody. That’s a tough injury. He’s a competitor. He’ll be able to battle back and get to where he was. It’s a long haul but he’ll get through it.”
