    Former Penn State commit Brandon Austin pulled the trigger for Providence, a source with direct knowledge told SNY.tv.

    Austin picked the Friars over Texas and UConn.

    “I liked the school, the community, the team, the coaching staff, all that,” the 6-foot-5 Austin told SNY.tv last month after his visit to the Big East School.

    “[Coach Ed Cooley] said I would come right in and play up and down. Give me the ball [and] try to build a team around me and Ricky Ledo and Kris Dunn.”

    Maryland and Rutgers are headed to the Big Ten in 2014.

    Maryland’s Board of Regents voted  unanimously to leave the ACC and go to the Big Ten.

    “Today is a watershed moment for the University of Maryland,” said Maryland university president Wallace D. Loh.  “Membership in the Big Ten Conference is in the strategic interest of the University of Maryland.  It will not only ensure the financial vitality of Maryland Athletics for decades to come, but the extensive opportunities in the CIC for collaborations with our peer AAU and flagship universities in education, research, and innovation will boost the University of Maryland’s ascendancy in academic excellence.”

    Kyle Anderson Sr. says that when Shabazz Muhammad makes his season debut Monday night against Georgetown at the Barclays Center, the nation will see the best college basketball player in the land.

    He also questions how UCLA head coach Ben Howland is using his son, Kyle Anderson Jr., a natural point guard who has played on the wing in the Bruins’ first three games.

    “Watching [Muhammad] play, there are times when he looks like the best player in the country,” Anderson Sr., a former Division 1 assistant coach and current AAU coach with the Playaz Basketball Club, told SNY.tv on Sunday.

    “I don’t think there’s anyone — at his best — that’s bettter than him now.”

    Check out this video interview with Georgetown’s Otto Porter which was done before he suffered a mild concussion Nov. 11 against Duquesne.

    Porter practiced Friday and could play Monday night against No. 13 UCLA in the Legends Classic at Barclays Center.

    “We hope to have Otto back,” Georgetown coach John Thompson III said last week on a conference call. “He has mild concussion symptoms…We’ll see and it’s completely, obviously up to our medical staff.

    “Once he’s cleared all the tests and then given the green light he’ll be back out there. We hope to have him out there Monday so we’ll see with that.”

    Andrew Wiggins     enjoyed a taste of life in Kentucky on Sunday, and Wildcats fans and their coach hope he gets more of it next season.

    With more than 2,000 fans and Kentucky coaches John Calipari, Orlando Antigua and Kenny Payne watching, the 6-foot-8 small forward went for 17 points and 11 rebounds as Huntington (W.V.) Prep routed Christian Faith Center Academy (N.C.), 61-44, at Scott County High School.

    NEW YORK — Lance Stephenson left his lasting impression on the Knicks Sunday afternoon in the form of seven stitches on the right side of Jason Kidd’s shaved head.

    During the first quarter of the Knicks’ 88-76 victory over the Pacers at Madison Square Garden, the former  Lincoln High School star raced out to the wing to defend Kidd’s pump fake and ended up banging a tooth on the veteran’s dome.

    “His teeth met my head and I got stitches,” said Kidd, who made three foul shots before departing the game with 8:48 left in the first period to get stitches. Kidd then returned in the second period wearing a crooked white headband that covered the injury.
