Karl Towns drew a Who’s Who of college coaches to his workout Thursday night at St. Joe’s-Metuchen High School.

Kentucky assistant Orlando Antigua, Kansas assistant Joe Dooley and Duke assistant Steve Wojciechowski headlined a group of coaches that also included scouts from Seton Hall, Cincinnati, Michigan State, Stanford and Northwestern.

Because Towns’ mother, Jackie, spent part of the workout talking to Antigua, one coach at the workout told SNY.tv, “He’s going to Kentucky.”

Iona Still Waiting on Norvel Pelle

Iona is still awaiting official word from the NCAA on Norvel Pelle’s eligibility and thus the 7-footer from California won’t enroll until midseason, a source with direct knowledge told SNY.tv Friday.

In a best-case scenario, Pelle would enroll in December and suit up for the second half of Iona’s season, including the MAAC schedule and the postseason.

“Yes, I’m waiting on the NCAA,” Pelle told SNY.tv last month after the former St. John’s signee shocked many in the college basketball world by verbally committing to the Gaels after visiting the campus.

“Final 3 schools are Uconn, Illinois nd FSU no specific order !,” the 6-foot-4 Huntington Prep shooting guard Tweeted.

Tom Lyles Calls UK Visit Accusations ‘Ridiculous,’ ‘Retarded’ and ‘Dumb’

EDITOR’S NOTE: This post was updated to reflect the NCAA rule that unofficial visits are not permitted during the month of July.

Tom Lyles called accusations that his son visited Kentucky in July “ridiculous,” “retarded” and “dumb” and said he and Trey visited the Kentucky campus for the first time a week ago.

Lyles was responding to comments made by Dan Dakich of 1070 The Fan in Indianapolis indicating that Trey, a 6-foot-8 power forward, visited Kentucky in July prior to his de-commitment from Indiana.

“I got it from a source, a very good source, that they went to Kentucky,” Dakich told SNY.tv by phone, adding that he had no proof of the visit other than what his source told him.

Melo To Make Dome Homecoming

Carmelo Anthony, who led Syracuse to the NCAA championship in 2003, is coming home.

Anthony will return to the Carrier Dome on Oct.22, when the Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers play an exhibition at 7 p.m.

Tickets for the game will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 17 at www.TicketMaster.com and are available in the three levels of the Carrier Dome for between $19.50 and $39.50 (excluding courtside and premium seating). Syracuse University students will be able to purchase a discounted lower-level ticket for $25.

James Young Could Coexist With Wiggins, Harrison Twins at Kentucky

James Young would have no problem co-existing with Andrew Wiggins, Julius Randle and the Harrison Twins should all — or some — of them end up at Kentucky.

That’s what his Godfather, Sean Mahone, told SNY.tv, during an extensive phone interview Friday afternoon.

“Yeah, yeah absolutely,” Mahone said.

“You play with Wiggins, you play with the Harrison twins, you play with Julius Randle, I would envision an up-and-down game and an opportunity for people who pose a threat from the outside to be able to given that opportunity. Simultaneously, if you have an opportunity to get to the bucket and create some things, I think it just presents a very interesting scenario, I really do.”
