Sindarius Thornwell Down to 2 Schools (UPDATED)

Oak Hill shooting guard Sindarius Thornwell is down to two schools — N.C. State and South Carolina.

Thornwell will visit N.C. State Oct. 12 and may visit South Carolina Oct. 19, but that date has not been entrenched yet.

The South Carolina native had previously considered Ohio State and Georgia.

As for South Carolina, Thornwell told SNY.tv, “I like coach Frank [Martin]. It’s close to home. I got an opportunity to get a lot of playing time there and I like the playing style there. It’s just where I’m from, it’s just me. South Carolina is me.”

With the Wolfpack, he said: “They got a good chance to win a national championship. Playing style fits me. He lets his guards play. Coach [Mark Gottfried], he’s a good person. I just feel comfortable with both coaches.”

As for a timeframe, he said, “I’ll decide by November.”

Thornwell played well on the summer circuit, going for 38 points and 13 boards in one game at the NIke Global Challenge.

“He has a huge upside,” Oak Hill coach Steve Smith said. “He is learning what working hard and getting his body in shape means. We are demanding a lot from him and he has responded for the first time in his young basketball life.”

“He is a scorer who is improving his perimeter shooting. He is a great on-the-ball defender who is learning to guard screens and be a great help defender as well.”

Said Thornwell: “I just want to come in, contribute to the team as much as possible and do whatever it takes to win.”
