Four LIU Players Arrested in Brawl

Four LIU basketball players — including the team’s top three scorers last season — were charged with assault Thursday after a campus fight last Saturday.

The New York Post reported the players fought with three men and two women on the track team, but a school spokesman told SNY.tv, “No other student-athletes were implicated in this incident.”

Four people were taken to Brooklyn Hospital for treatment.

C.J. Garner, 22, Julian Boyd, 22, Troy Joseph, 21, and Jamal Olasewere, 21, were all charged with third-degree assault, according to the Post. Boyd was the Northeast Conference Player of the Year, and Olaswere was a first-team all-conference selection.

“LIU Brooklyn has suspended indefinitely four members of its men’s basketball team for their involvement in a Sept. 14 altercation on campus,” LIU athletic director John Suarez said in a statement. “No other student-athletes were implicated in this incident. Until all legal and appeals processes have been completed, we will not comment further on this matter.”

LIU made back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances the last two seasons under former coach Jim Ferry.

Ferry left to take the Duquesne job and was replaced in April by assistant Jack Perri.
