James Young Has Big-time Home Visits Lined Up

Having already had a home visit with Kentucky coach John Calipari, James Young will host some of the biggest names in college coaching next week.

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo visits Sunday, Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim arrives Monday and Kansas coach Bill Self comes Wednesday, Rochester (Mich.) coach John Pleasant told SNY.tv Friday.

“Kentucky has been the only home visit so far,” Pleasant said. “However, Michigan State, Syracuse and Kansas will all be making their home visits this coming week.

The 6-foot-6 shooting guard recently transferred to Rochester from Troy (Mich.) and is the Rivals No. 8 player in the Class of 2013.

He had a huge summer, leading USA Team Midwest to the championship at the Nike Global Challenge, beating Andrew Wiggins and Team Canada in the final.

Calipari tripped to five states last Monday, including a stop to see Young in Michigan.

“Coach Cal spent a lot of time talking about the importance of the team during his home visit,” Pleasant said. “He acknowledged that he coaches many talented individuals, but he always demands that the team comes first.  He also made it very clear that he promises nothing, in terms of number of minutes, number of shots, etc, and that you have to work for everything.”

Everything is fluid in his recruitment at this point.

“Currently, James and his family have no timetable for a decision,” he said. “They are going to go through all of the home visits this week, and then make campus visit. However, no timetable is in place at this time.”
