Terrence Samuel to UConn

Terrence Samuel, a 6-foot-2 point guard from Brooklyn South Shore, verbally committed to UConn Sunday.

“It’s a great academic and basketball program,” Samuel told SNY.tv.

Samuel joins 6-foot-9 Long Island Lutheran forward Kentan Facey in UConn’s 2013 recruiting class.

Samuel and Facey follow former Christ the King shooting guard Omar Calhoun in terms of New York prospects committing to the Huskies in the last two years.

“[Samuel] is a throwback, he’s a point guard, he’s pass-first point guard who looks to make other people better,” New York recruiting expert Tom Konchalski said. “He plays for result rather than for effect.”

He added: “Obviously, UCOnn is gearing their recruiting to the New York area. They have three in two classes from the New York area. When was the last they’ve done that?”

The Huskies are banned from the 2013 postseason, but the ban will not affect Facey and Samuel.
