CIA Bounce TV will feature a “major announcement” Thursday night at 7 p.m. on its Website and that announcement is expected to be in the form of Tyler Ennis’s college commitment.
The 6-foot-3 point guard from St. Benedict’s Prep previously said he would announce in August.
“[Tyler] wants to do it before he goes back to school,” his father, CIA Bounce coach Tony McIntyre, told SNY.tv in July at the “Live in AC” event.
Ennis is considering Syracuse, Illinois, Louisville, Memphis and UCLA, among others, with Syracuse long having been the frontrunner.
The first college game Ennis attended as a youngster was at the Carrier Dome, and Syracuse is the closest school to his home in Toronto.
Syracuse assistant Adrian Autry attended every one of Ennis’s games in July at various events, from the Nike Global Challenge to the Peach Jam to the Caribana Classic in Toronto.
“[Autry] told me before the summer that he’s going to be at all the games,” Ennis told SNY.tv at “Live in AC.” “Everywhere I go he’s gonna go just to show that they want me. So seeing him there at the game and a couple others, that’s awesome.”
Illinois head coach John Groce and assistant Dustin Ford probably recruited Ennis just as hard throughout July, although they entered his recruitment later than Syracuse.
“Coach Groce has a void in the point guard, they don’t have a point guard so they’re saying I could come in and get a lot of minutes,” Ennis said in July.
A prototypical floor general, Ennis led the Canadian team that also featured Andrew Wiggins and Xavier Rathan-Mayes to the final of the Global Challenge. He then paced the CIA Bounce AAU team to the final of the Peach Jam where they lost to the Oakland Soldiers.
After he makes his announcement, he will focus on trying to lead a loaded St. Benedict’s Prep team toward a mythical national championship.
