UCLA has done pretty well for itself in the New York metropolitan area in the last year.
See Kyle Anderson.
Now UCLA has joined the fray for 6-foot-10 2014 forward Chris McCullough of the Salisbury (Conn.) School.
Bruins coach Ben Howland called to offer McCullough, who had 16 points and played like a man on a mission despite a hand injury as the Team Scan 16s beat Team Thad, 73-70, to win the Fab 48 in Las Vegas.
UCLA joins a long list of offers for McCullough that includes Kansas, UConn, St. John’s, Syracuse, Iowa State, Arizona, Florida, Georgetown, Louisville, Memphis, North Carolina, Hofstra, Providence, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Temple, Villanova and West Virginia.
Kentucky has also expressed interest in McCullough.
“We’re going to cut the list down, hopefully September,” Terrance “Munch” Williams, McCullough’s AAU coach with Team Scan, said at the Peach Jam. “Go through the unofficials, narrow it down, make sure we understand why each person is being cut off the list for legitimate reasons for what fits Chris McCollough and then go from there.”
