RaShawn Powell, Rashad Vaughn Recruiting Updates

PHILADELPHIA — Two guards getting a lot of interest here at the Reebok Breakout Challenge are  RaShawn “Pookie” Powell and Rashad Vaughn.

Their paths crossed Thursday morning when Vaughn, an athletic 6-foot-4 2014 wing from Robbinsdale (Minn.) Cooper, scored 15 points to lead the Wildcats over Powell and the Answers, 60-57.

Powell (pictured) had 9 points and 1 assist in the loss.

The 6-1 Powell is a 2013 point guard out of Orlando (Fla.) Dr. Phillips. He said he’s considering Memphis, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma State, Missouri, UCF and Seton Hall, among others.

“Everybody is even right now,” he said.

Powell plans to cut his list and take visits sometime this fall

“After I take my ACT then I’m taking my visits in September,” Powell said.

He plans to get down to a “top five or top three.”

A natural point guard, Powell likes to push the tempo and has a good command of  the offense.

“I like running up and down,” he said.

Vaughn, meantime, is a big wing who lists Baylor, Kansas, Syracuse, Minnesota, Iowa State, Texas, Tennessee and Seton Hall.

He will take some unofficials this summer.

“Yeah, I’m going down to Baylor and visit there, Texas, Kansas,” said Vaughn, who played with 2014 Minnesota point guard Tyus Jones when they were younger.

Vaughn on Baylor: “Just the relationship with the coaches and their winning streak at the school.”

On Texas: “That’s a big-time basketball school. I have a good relationship with the coaches.”

He said Minnesota is also making a hard push.
