Report: Davis Sprains Ankle, Likely Out for Olympics

New Orleans Hornets forward Anthony Davis suffered a severely sprained ankle at a workout and is likely out for the London Olympics, according to a report from Adrian Wojnarowki of Yahoo! Sports.

“Just getting a report that his ankle is serious doesn’t mean anything to me until we get an official doctor’s report on what that means,” Team USA Chairman Jerry Colangelo told Sam Amick of SI.com. “Does it mean he can’t practice for a week? Does it mean he’s out for a month? You know what I’m saying. I don’t like to speculate.”

Anthony was the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft after being named the National Player of the Year at Kentucky.

Team USA is already without Miami Heat forward Chris Bosh after he said he would not be available  because he has to rest his abdominal strain suffered in the playoffs. Big men LaMarcus Aldridge and Dwight Howard are already out. Tyson Chandler, Kevin Love, Blake Griffin and Lamar Odom are the only players 6-foot-10 or taller on head coach Mike Krzyzewski’s list of finalists for Team USA.

SIXERS’ HOLIDAY ADDED TO SELECT TEAM

Philadelphia 76ers point guard Jrue Holiday was added to the USA Men’s Select Team that will train against Team USA beginning July 6 in Las Vegas. Holiday is the 15th player USA Basketball has named to the USA Select squad.

“In naming Jrue to our Select Team we’ve added an athletic guard who can get to the rim and someone who is also a good 3-point shooter. Both those skills will be invaluable in helping prepare our National Team for this summer,” Colangelo said.
