So I woke up this morning following last night’s Game 2 of the NBA Finals to the strains of my 7-year-old daughter, Grace, watching SportsCenter and asking, “How come they”re wearing glasses likeĀ Urkel?”
Jaleel White starred as Steve Urkel on “Family Matters” from 1989-98, long before Grace was born, but she watches reruns almost every morning on Nickelodeon.
So she knows as well as anyone that LeBron, D-Wade, Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant are sporting the Urkel Look — even if there are no lenses in those glasses.
Well, maybe Westbrook is more Sally Jessy Raphael with the red rims.
Westbrook may be the most unique, but LeBron isn’t giving him credit for starting the trend.
“It’s a fashion thing, but he absolutely didn’t start it,” James told reporters, according to the New York Post. “I think I’ve been wearing mine two years now. But I don’t know who started it.”

Glasses without lenses makes as much sense as men wearing dresses. What a joke.
