Harrisons Still Looking to Decide Early

The recruiting process is starting to “hectic” for the Harrison twins and in an effort to minimize that they are looking to make a decision by the fall — likely around their 18th birthday Oct. 28.

“I [will] probably commit before my senior season starts to get that weight off my shoulders so I can play without  that on my mind,” Andrew Harrison, the Rivals No. 1 point guard in the Class of 2013, told SNY.tv by phone from the U.S. U18 trials in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Aaron Harrison, the No. 2 shooting guard in the Class of 2013, added in a separate phone interview that he wanted to decide early “just to get it out of the way. I don’t have to worry about it anymore. Just concentrate on school and getting better and don’t have to worry about everybody asking you the same question over and over.”

The twins are down to four primary schools — Kentucky, Baylor, Villanova and Maryland — but are also considering SMU after visiting the school late last month.

“I don’t think SMU is as serious as the rest of them are, but they’re definitely looking at SMU,” Aaron Harrison Sr. told SNY.tv Thursday.

“SMU is something that definitely intrigues them.”

SMU is also in the mix for Philly Constitution wing Savon Goodman, and is considering Larry’s Brown’s club along with UNLV.

Aaron Sr. previously told SNY.tv that they planned to visit all four primary schools in late June and early July, but on Thursday he said no dates had been finalized.

“We don’t really know what our schedule is going to look like,” the father said by phone.

In a separate video interview with Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress.com, Andrew  seemed to indicate he was tiring of the recruiting process.

“It’s getting hectic,” he told Givony. “Everyone wants you and they’ll tell you anything.”

Asked if he felt Kentucky coach John Calipari had made the twins a priority, Andrew told SNY.tv: ” You could say that. We talk to them a lot. They offered us a scholarship last October, so I guess you could say that.”

Wherever they end up, Andrew wants to help his team contend for a national title.

“I’m a point guard so I’m going to push the ball, try to get in the paint and look for my teammates,” Andrew said. “Play defense, try to help my team win a national championship.”

In the meantime, the twins are among the 23 players trying out for 12 spots on the USA U18 team that will compete in the World Championships in Brazil.

Both players said they were excited about making the team but seemed critical of their own performances during practice Wednesday.

“If they’re excited, I’m excited,” Aaron Sr. said. “Of course they want to do that [make the team]. If they do, then I’ll be excited for them.”
