Seton Hall Officially Adds Sterling Gibbs

Seton Hall officially announced Monday that former Texas guard Sterling Gibbs has transferred to the University.

Gibbs is seeking a hardship waiver due to a family illness and hopes to be eligible for the upcoming season, sources told SNY.tv.

“We’re excited to add Sterling to our family,” Pirates head coach Kevin Willard said.  “He’s the type of player that will contribute to our backcourt efforts over the next few years.  He’s also a player that knows Seton Hall, its mission and culture well.  Sterling will be a nice fit.”

The younger brother of recent Pittsburgh graduate Ashton Gibbs, Sterling averaged 2.6 points and 0.7 assists in 7.5 minutes per game last year at Texas.

Gibbs is a graduate and the all-time leading scorer at Seton Hall Prep in West Orange, N.J.

A dominant scorer, he averaged 20.8 points, 4.2 assists and 1.8 steals per game during his senior season and earned First Team All-State honors.  Gibbs guided Seton Hall Prep to a 26-4 record and the Essex County Tournament championship in his senior year.
