Pittsburgh Latest to Offer Jaren Sina

PENNINGTON, N.J. — Pittsburgh is the latest school to offer uncommitted 2013 point guard Jaren Sina.

Jamie Dixon called me and offered Jaren for Pitt,” Mergin Sina, Jaren’s father and the coach at Gill St. Bernard’s, said at the Mary Kline Classic.

A former Alabama commit, Sina was named co-MVP of the Mary Kline a week ago after putting up eight points and 14 assists in a loss.

Northwestern and Alabama are also involved, as are several Big East schools.

“Northwestern offered since last year,” Mergin said. “Alabama’s very strong in the running.

“A variety of Big East schools, St. John’s is still there, Rutgers is still there.”

Asked what they’re looking for, Mergin said: “Somewhere where Jaren can really go in there and find a system where he can play. That’s going to be very important.”

As for a timetable, Mergin said: “Jaren wants to do something by July but I told him we’re not doing anything on emotions.”
