St. John’s assistant Mike Dunlap is among the candidates for the Charlotte Bobcats head coaching vacancy.
Patrick Ewing is also in the mix to replace Paul Silas in Charlotte. Former Knicks assistant Michael Malone is as well, the New York Post reported.
“Coach Dunlap’s being invited to interview for the head coaching position with the Charlotte Bobcats is a compliment to Mike and our program,” Johnnies coach Steve Lavin told SNY.tv. “I enthusiastically support Mike in the process. As a head coach, I encourage all of my assistants to become head coaches.”
Charlotte posted the NBA’s lowest winning percentage (.106) ever this season with only seven wins in 66 games.
Known as a master strategist and tactician, Dunlap won two national titles at Division II Metro State in Denver and also served two years as an assistant under Denver Nuggets coach George Karl.
He also served as the associate head coach at Arizona.
He coached St. John’s virtually all of last season while Lavin recovered from prostate cancer surgery.

Mike Dunlap is a great coach & deserves a chance to be a HC in the college ranks or in the Pro’s but he should not take this job the NBA Charlotte Bobcats because nobody even a great coach can’t save this run down fanless Bobcats team. Plus Dunlap should leave the run down fanless St. John’s team to & go back to a great winning tradition school like Arizona again or a school like that or a winning tradition Pro’s team also.
