Lyons Visits Kentucky, Arizona Up Next

Xavier point guard Mark Lyons visited Kentucky Monday and heads to Arizona Friday, according to the Arizona Daily Star.

“Just get a feel for the place, see how it looks and the environment,” Lyons told the Daily Star of his goals for this weekend at Arizona. Playing point guard “is a big factor because I want to play more point than I did in my past.”

Lyons, who will finish Xavier’s spring semester on Friday and be eligible to play immediately next year, also plans a visit to Kansas, but no date has been set.

Arizona head coach Sean Miller recruited Lyons to Xavier, but Lyons told SNY.tv that the Wildcats wouldn’t necessarily hold an advantage as a result.

Lyons is also close with Arizona wing Kevin Parrom of New York, having co-hosted Parrom on his visit to Xavier in 2008, the Daily Star reported. Parrom initially committed to Xavier before switching with Miller in the spring of 2009.

“We’ve been cool,” Lyons said of Parrom. “We talked even before I decided to transfer. … He definitely joked about it but he doesn’t want to put pressure on me to do something.”

  • U can’t visit UofA on a weekend in may and not commit. My guess is KU never gets a visit and he commits to Arizona by Monday .

  • Lets hope Josiah Turner doesn’t host Lyons, and more importantly, drive him around campus!

  • Anything to get these kids to visit in the offseason, still can’t understand how the committed kids aren’t trying to jump ship after the shitshow that was the 2011-12 season. Maybe they don’t know how much of a failure it was since none of the games were televised. Lute must be rolling over in his grave. RIP Lute, you were the only positive thing to happen to Arizona.

  • Newsflash these kids r smarter than you, they see what Sean miller is rebuilding and they r all on record talking about winning a NC.
Show some respect 4 Lute> any KU coach ever.
And don’t say Roy Williams bc he COULDN’T win at KU.

  • arizona isn’t winning anything anytime soon. So just get used to it and quit trying to convince yourself otherwise. Remember when you were all over turner’s nutts? LOL Who will be the next to transfer and realize zona is not the place? Sean Miller to UCONN??

  • Im sure every D1 ball player is on record talking about winning a NC. LOL That is why they go to college. #Newsflash When is the last time a pac school even went to a Final Four? UCLA?

  • When was last time bill self got a kid miller was recruiting?
Miller landed his top four priorities for 2012, kids are lining up to come right now, and 2013, and 2014 classes will be top 5 classes again. Bill self can have the scraps and the kids who can’t qualify or tie their shoes.
As for your turner comments no one cares he’s leaving, Lyons is a better player right now, and everything I read has Arizona as the obvious choice. Add mcconell who is a transfer with a lot of game will take over 4 Lyons.

  • Definition of delusional: “Newsflash these kids r smarter than you, they see what Sean miller is rebuilding and they r all on record talking about winning a NC. Show some respect 4 Lute> any KU coach ever. And don’t say Roy Williams bc he COULDN’T win at KU.”

PS, you really know a lot about college bball history…

  • Another point for you BJ…Miller needs the talent more than Self, he knows he’s not the coach Self is. Remember all those recruiting victories you referenced? Your coach wasn’t even on the same planet as Self this season.

  • i wonder if all the non uk fans who called cal a “failure” for not winning with talented freshman all those years will now apply the same standards for their own coach/program now that they have talented freshman.

    i wonder….

  • @Boston, there’s no true comparison to the talent Cal pulls in. Anytime a coach doesn’t win a title with 5 NBA picks it is a failure.

  • so roy williams is a failure then. i mean barnes, marshall, henson, and zeller. 4 should be enough right?

its just funny watching non uk fans hold uk to a standard they don’t even hold themselves too.

  • Are you talking Academic Standards?

  • and that right there is why fear is the best. all he cares is talking trash regardless how dumb it makes him look.

ku gets put on probation for academic fraud. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=2623000

you think as a result….no ku fan would EVER bring up “academics”. but fear isn’t afraid to go there. bravo!!!!!

anyone ever notice that fans bring up academics after they lose on the court/field? i mean….who talks about academics before the games start? its all “our coach is better then yours”, “our players are better then yours”, etc.

  • We still talking about hoops here? Pretty sure that’s an old football issue… If you really want to talk APR, I’m pretty sure KU hoops compares favorably to other elite programs.

  • as does UK.

  • And if you’d like the information is found here: http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/newmedia/public/rates/index5.html Notice which institutions have perfect scores…(hint: KU from 2007-10)

  • Douchbag

  • Hook, Line and Sinker boston. It was just a question, and you went straight for it.

  • check this out: http://kentuckysportsradio.com/?p=111069

where does KU hang its APR banners? i’ll bet the recruits are speechless when they seem them.

    lol

  • Is it true uk’s players quit going to class to go on parades and autograph signings? Yeah, we see how important academics are in kentucky. Who would of thought a student would need a tutor for freshman introduction and basket weaving? LOL Are they really charging their own fans 50 dollars or more for autographs? How pathetic is that? Are they still not considered student-athletes? Im sure their autograph is worth no more than john wall’s – NOTHING! LOL Wait for the kentucky effect soon, a post season ban for failing to meet academic standards. Then blame the NCAA and Mark Emmert. haha Typical.
