Jarelle Reischel to Rhode Island

Dan Hurley’s rebuilding of Rhode Island continues.

The Rams on Wednesday received a commitment from former Rice forward Jarelle Reischel.

The 6-foot-6 Point Pleasant Beach High product chose the Rams over VCU after earlier considering Iona, La Salle and Boston College. He had visited VCU and Rhode Island.

“The coaches and the opportunity to be part of something special with the guys coming in, we have a chance to be really good,” Reischel told SNY.tv. “It’s also close to home, something I couldn’t pass up. VCU is a first class program that did a wonderful job recruiting me as well.”

“Jarelle narrowed his list down to two great schools and coaching staffs who both did a tremendous job recruiting him,” Point Pleasant Beach coach Nick Catania told SNY.tv. “He really developed a great relationship with Dan and Bob Hurley and felt the Rhode Island staff could continue to improve his game.”

Reischel averaged 5.7 points and 2.7 rebounds as a rookie at Rice.

Reischel joins Rutgers transfer Gilvydas Biruta in players who must sit out a year before playing for Hurley.

Hurley also secured commitments from former Wagner pledge Mike Aaman, a 6-8 forward from Raritan High, and 6-9 Jordan Hare of Saginaw, Mich.
