Allerik Freeman Adds Duke, UCLA, Ohio State to List

Allerik Freeman had cut his list to Villanova and Kansas, but when Duke, Ohio State and UCLA came calling it was time to expand the list.

As first reported by Alex Kline, those three schools are now expressing interest in the 6-foot-3, 195-pound 2013 combo guard from Charlotte (N.C.) Olympic.

“Like most kids he had a change of heart and added UCLA and Ohio State,” Olympic coach Ty Baumgardner told SNY.tv by phone.

“Just in the last couple of weeks, Duke has shown some interest. Coach [Chris] Collins and Al have had some communication through email. Word is Coach K is going to watch him this weekend” at the Nike EYBL stop in Minnesota.

He added: “I think obviously he’s flattered. You’re talking about one of the top five programs of all time in college basketball and one of the greatest coaches of all time in college basketball.”

Baumgardner said no visits are planned and that Freeman would let the process evolve over the summer.

“He’s just going to wait till the fall to do his visits,” he said. “He and his dad will take visits.”

Freeman is a combo guard who is working on improving at both positions.

“He shoots it well enough,” the coach said. “You can always get better in that area. He’s comfortable playing the two, he’s more comfortable playing the one as well. He’s a kid that will be able to play both guard positions in college. It depends how they want to use him.”

  • Can Self recruit with the big boys in this recruitment ?
    What do KU fans think?
Adding these 3 schools can’t b good news.

  • i’m sure self will offer his best friend or something in order to make ku more attractive. seems to be his go to move these days.

  • They got 5 star recruit Brannen Greene, so it could happen. Chris Walker got them high on his list too, but soon as UK offers him, he’s ghost.

  • @Boston, Self does it legitimately, Calipari doesn’t. Say what you want to say, but that’s a fact.

@BJ, why are you still talking? You should have hung yourself with the Arizona recruiting championship runner-up banner months ago.

  • Just a few days ago I thought why didnt Duke look into freeman and voila lol

  • Lol kungpao, last season is over I’m on to this upcoming year now.
U should probably do the same número 2.( Ron burgandy voice)

  • what is a fact?

  • greene and frankcamp already locked up for ’13. again i ask, what is self’s record since taking the job at ku? how many conference championships? how many nba players? how many title games? i think he can get the job done no matter what….who cares to state he doesn’t or can’t? i’ll be waiting

  • boston, who besides daniels? sinemax, so walker goes to uk, does randle then go to ku? just saying…..

  • kungpao said cal doesn’t get kids legitimately and said it was fact. i was wondering what those facts were.

  • boston, you said self recruits best friends correct? or thats his go to move? who besides daniels? fact is self wins, right? fact is cal wins, right? let it go

  • peters was randles teammate, friend i assume. and didn’t self offer forte late in order to get smart? they are pacifically brothers i believe. and then of course daniels. did that kid transfer now?

  • peters was the top ranked player in the class at one point very early on…..he was being looked at by a few top schools wasn’t he? he’s located in big 12 country as well, so is that really a package? or are you reaching? self offered both forte and smart yes…as well as nino and his twin sister. the kid your referring to has not, saw him out the wednesday prior to the final 4 on bourbon street. he seemed happy, and both him and young liked my jayhawk bird hat

  • maybe this kid ends up at uk, who knows. cal gets who he wants

  • i guess that is what i love about cal’s recruiting. very very few players get offers early in the process and even if they do, they might not be allowed to commit. why take a sophomore or junior really? much better strategy then gillespie taking 8th and 9th graders. what a freaking clown.

  • Peters was recruited by UNC, Texas, UK and KU. Forte’s Dad went to KU and played football I believe. Have fun with that scrub Cauley, kid wasn’t even all state in Kansas.

  • well cat to each there own i guess. i guess self will take those early commits as well and make do. cal has his way that works for him, good on him indeed

  • cauley will develop after a couple years. a 3 or 4 year player which ultimetly uk needs. miller, jones, and lamb were very important pieces to the puzzle

  • i remember IU fans ripping on teague for not being mr. basketball, saying that he sucked based off his HS team.

now he is about to be a lottery pick after leading a team to a 38-2 record and a national title.

i guess cal is a tremendous developer of talent or those IU fans are really stupid and jaded. i guess they could be both.

  • not sure about lottery but 1st round for sure

  • Marcus Camby??? Derrick Rose. Why take a junior so if Jabari Parker wanted to commit cal would not take him child please. Cal is like a terd in your ice cream. Forte can ball enough at a high major but will get crushed in big 12. We got our coaches hanging out with porn stars you got far faced Ashley Judd. Chuck Hayes is my favorite nba player. Self is 1 and o in Lexington and Cal won’t come to the field house.

  • At Memphis in 2001 Calipari hired Dajuan Wagner’s dad to his staff the year he signed him. In 2003 he offered a scholarship to Kendrick Perkins friend Keena Young which was accepted and then pulled the scholarship from the kid when Perkins went straight to the pros. Same coach who called a Latin reporter a Mexican idiot during his failed NBA coaching stint with the Nets. I guess everything he did before Kentucky doesn’t count, sort of like his final four appearances at Umass and Memphis. As far as developing pros, please all those top 10 kids would have been lottery picks no matter what school they went to. Calipari is not because he coaches Kentucky, he had a lot of haters years before he ever got there.
