Chandler To See Doctor About Wrist

GREENBURGH, N.Y. — While the Knicks got Iman Shumpert and Josh Harrellson back from injuries this week, center Tyson Chandler’s left wrist injury is flaring up just as the second half of the season begins.

“I’m gonna talk to the doctor today,” Chandler, the Knicks’ defensive anchor at center, said Tuesday. “Like I said, I was hoping that the time off and the rest would help me out a little bit, but. . . .”

Chandler injured both wrists and his tailbone in a Feb. 19 win over his former team, the Dallas Mavericks, but X-rays that day were negative.

“They say it’s a deep bone bruise and some swelling around the nerves, which is causing my hand to kind of get the weakness and all that,” he said.

He added: “I thought the break would do me some good and help me heal a little bit but coming back and just today in practice and just trying to catch the ball and everything, it’s still difficult,” Chandler said.

The 7-footer said he planned to play Wednesday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Knicks don’t play again until Saturday in Boston.

“It’s difficult right now,” Chandler said. “The good thing is we only have Wednesday’s game and then we have a couple of days. I’ll just monitor it. If I feel like it’s doing more harm than good, then maybe we’ll discuss it.”

“He’ll be fine,” Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni said. “He can rest in the summer time. He’s fine. It will hurt his 3-point shooting, but he’ll be alright.”
