Jefferson Gets Crack at Unbeaten St. Anthony

Brooklyn Thomas Jefferson will be the latest team that gets a crack at UCLA-bound point guard Kyle Anderson and unbeaten St. Anthony.

“Tonight’s the night, like Betty White,” Jefferson (21-5) coach Lawrence Pollard told SNY.tv. “One of two things will happen. We are going to be exposed or get plenty of exposure.”

The Friars (20-0) are the defending mythical national champs and carry a 53-game winning streak into the game at Lincoln High School.

“We work hard every day,” St. Anthony senior guard Tariq Carey said Saturday after the Friars beat Huntington (West Va.) Prep, 50-49, in the PrimeTime Shootout at Roselle Catholic. “Coach [Bob] Hurley says don’t worry about winning, going undefeated, just worry about every game day by day.

“So that’s what we’re doing.”

St. Anthony is in the mix for an unprecedented back-to-back mythical national title, depending on how the rest of the season shakes out.

After Jefferson, the Friars visit Bishop Eustace Thursday and Long Island Lutheran Saturday before hosting super sophomore Isaiah Whitehead and Lincoln Tuesday.

“It’s a good test for me personally,” Lincoln coach Tiny Morton previously told SNY.tv. “I love to coach against a Hall of Famer [St. Anthony coach Bob Hurley]. As a coach, you get a chance to coach against someone like that, you get a chance to steal some things before your playoffs start.”
