Isaiah Watkins, one of the top power forwards in the Class of 2013 out of St. Benedict’s Prep, will be contributing periodically to ZAGSBLOG during his junior season.
His team is playing Saturday and Sunday this weekend in the PrimeTime Shootout at Roselle (N.J.) Catholic.
Here’s his first entry:
What’s up, everybody?
Our season has been really positive as far as what we want to accomplish and the record that we have so far. We are 24-1 and the only loss was by 1 point to St. Anthony.
Being from Canada and living in the States my first time this year, I was a little unsure of how my knowledge of the game was going to change from what I had known, (playing against my brother in the driveway, and pick up games with my neighborhood friends) to playing in an atmosphere where basketball is everything to people and being on TV and in front of huge crowds.
I am extremely motivated to improve. I want to reach a level that I never believed I could get to. I love the work it takes and the challenges and try to look at everything optimistically. I want to be a pro, no question. I definitely play with a chip on my shoulder, play the game mean every night. That’s just from the way I was brought up.
And I enjoy playing with my teammates and competing for that top spot in the nation in hopes of a national championship and receiving an invitation to ESPN Rise.
I have won at every level thrown at me and I want to keep winning, plain and simple
As far as my college recruitment, I have offers from Rice, Indiana, Temple, Virginia, Villanova, Harvard, Boston College, San Diego State, Washington, Charlotte, Boise St., Santa Clara, St. Bonaventure, Cincinnati, Iowa State and Arkansas, to name a few. I have more than 40 scholarship offers as of late.
And I talked with West Virginia, St. Joe’s, Bucknell, Charlotte, Princeton and Arkansas in the last little while.
Florida State and Stanford send my family a lot of stuff, too.
That’s all for now. Talk to you guys soon!
