Melo Out 1-2 Weeks With Groin Injury (UPDATED)

NEW YORK —  Carmelo Anthony will be out 1-2 weeks after suffering a right groin injury in the first quarter of the Knicks 99-88 victory over the Utah Jazz Monday.

Anthony appeared to injure the groin while throwing up an alley-oop dunk to Tyson Chandler. He limped downcourt and then left the action with 6:11 left in the quarter after scoring two points.

After the game, Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni called Anthony “day-to-day.”

Anthony, the Knicks’ leading scorer at 23.3 points per game, has been bothered this season by ankle, wrist and thumb injuries and sat out two games late last month to rest those ailments.

Without Anthony, rookie point guard Jeremy Lin went for career-highs of 28 points and 8 assists and the offense hummed as well as it has all year.

The Knicks are already without Amar’e Stoudemire, whose older brother, Hazell, died earlier Monday in a car crash in Florida.

It remains unclear when Stoudemire will return.
