The list of the greatest basketball players in St. Anthony’s storied history usually comes down to a handful of names.

Bobby Hurley, “Mandy” Johnson, Rodrick Rhodes, Jerry Walker, David Rivers and Tyshawn Taylor are among those in the conversation.

Bobby Hurley led his team to the inaugural Tournament of Champions title in 1989 and went on to appear in three Final Fours and lead Duke to back-to-back NCAA titles.

Walker was a four-year starter, won four state titles and lost only five games in his career under legendary coach Bob Hurley.

DeAndre Bembry, one of the top small forwards in the Class of 2013 out of Elizabeth (N.J.) St. Patrick, will be contributing periodically to ZAGSBLOG during his junior season. Here’s his first entry:

My name is DeAndre Bembry and I go to St.Patrick High School in Elizabeth, N.J.

I am a 6-foot-6, 195 pound transfer from North Carolina from a school called Rocky River. The school was brand new and so was the team.

I started at the three as a sophomore playing varsity, and I averaged 17 points, 9.2 rebounds and three blocks.

I came to St.Patrick looking for a bunch of talent to play with and to play against and that’s what I got.

The good news just keeps on coming for Seton Hall.

The Pirates on Friday landed a verbal commitment from 5-foot-6, 150-pound 2013  point guard Aquille Carr of Baltimore Patterson.

“Thanks to everybody that push me to make it to were im at #setonhall,” he tweeted.

Seton Hall senior point guard Jordan Theodore Tweeted to Carr, “S/o to the new member of the Pirates @CantGuard3. Welcome aboard boy!”

Isiah Thomas is no longer affiliated with the Knicks, but that hasn’t stopped him from voicing his opinion on every big move.

The former Knicks coach and president says he doesn’t think getting rid of veteran point guard Chauncey Billups in favor of 7-foot-1 center Tyson Chandler was a wise move.

“The guard play right now in the NBA is off the charts,’’ Thomas told “The Sid Rosenberg Show” on Miami radio, according to the New York Post.

Diamond Dave played with Van Halen Thursday night at the 250-seat Cafe Wha? in Greenwich Village.

David Lee Roth’s 92-year-old uncle, Manny, founded the club. Jimmy Fallon and John McEnroe were among those in the crowd.

Judging by these videos, they sounded rough but ready to rumble. The band will tour in 2012 and has a new album out next month.

Here’s an excerpt from a piece by Andy Greene of Rolling Stone, who was in the house.

I stood a good five feet in front of Eddie Van Halen (dressed in ripped jeans and a black t-shirt) and the man played absolutely flawlessly. It was a beautiful sight.  Before the start of a Van Halen tour you never know what Ed you’re getting. The 2004 Van Hagar Ed was a drunken, shirtless mess. The 2007/08 reunion Ed was cleaned up and together, and that clearly is the case today. While Roth ordered drinks from the stage and took some shots, Ed restricted himself to bottled water and a couple of Red Bulls.
