St. Ben’s Kamall Richards Planning on Reclassifying

HACKENSACK, N.J. — St. Benedict’s senior forward Kamall Richards plans on reclassifying to the Class of 2013 and possibly doing a prep year.

“I might reclass,” he told SNY.tv following St. Benedict’s 51-50 loss to St. Anthony Sunday in the New Year’s Jump Off at Hackensack High School. “I just turned 17. I [will] most likely do it. I probably will.”

The 6-foot-6 Richards, who transferred from Pocono Mountain East High in Swiftwater, Pa., could potentially spend next year at a prep school since St. Benedict’s doesn’t have a fifth-year team.

He’s averaging 9.5 points and 2.6 rebounds on the season, and scored a season-high 15 points against Primetime Prep.

Against St. Anthony, he managed six points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals.

St. Ben’s led by eight, 40-32, late in the third period before Kyle Anderson and company closed the game on a 19-10 run.

“We’re coming together, we’re coming into a real good team,” Richards said. “We can be one of the best teams in the nation.”

As far as schools, Richards said Florida Atlantic is working the hardest, and FAU assistant Peter Gash attended the game. Richards is also hearing from VCU, Fordham and Cincinnati.

“Right now FAU is probably working the hardest,” he said.
